Roman blinds have been used in interior design for centuries; there is a myriad of options, and reasons to choose roman blinds when decorating. Some of these revolve around practicality, others around aesthetic pleasure; the purpose of this article is to highlight some of the more common reasons why people choose roman blinds.

The interior of our homes is understandably important, every homeowner wants an abode that is comfortable, stylish and practical, and this is why when it comes to the choice of window coverings, blinds can be considered an excellent option.

If measured and fitted incorrectly shades can actually be detrimental to the style of a room. This is why when choosing window dressings for a home it is essential to get the measurements right and to ensure that they are fitted correctly. Once the correct measurements are provided it is easy for the manufacturers to make the right size roman blinds that will fit into your window recesses perfectly.

It is incredibly difficult to choose between the many different styles and colours of roman blinds. Varieties are available in bold solid colours, stripes as well as other patterns. Ultimately the choice of style and colour should be based upon the existing decor of the room. Additionally it is worth looking at the different fabric amounts, as long flowing shades can be ideal in some rooms although shorter folds can be advisable in more functional rooms.

Whether to choose a lined or unlined variety of blind is ultimately down to the practicalities of the room. For example, whereas it is unlikely that a lined type will be needed in a dining or living room, in the bedroom of a night worker or a child's room, having a lining could be essential. The latter variety of roman blind is generally known as a blackout blind in the industry, while heavy, they provide excellent levels of privacy

When studying the types of fabric to use for window dressings the primary concern should be the durability of the chosen material. Naturally throughout their lifetime a shade will be somewhat faded by the sun. This is why in general a slightly heavier fabric is used when decorating. In addition the control mechanism for any shades should be durable enough to withstand use over a period of many years.

Hopefully this article has highlighted some of the thinking processes needed when looking to purchase roman blinds. Ultimately if the windows are measured correctly, the colour and pattern is chosen wisely and the material is durable enough any shades should deliver aesthetic pleasure for many years.
