You should never try to be someone you are not, especially with your date, if you are thinking of possibly taking your relationship further or even if you just want to know your date better. When you behave and be yourself, you are being truthful. Honesty pays and reflects well on you, you are creating expectations for your date. If you do not meet the expectations in the future, you will eventually be wasting yours, as well as your date's time and effort. Hence, being truthful will lay a strong foundation for your future relationship with your date. Even if you do not want to take the relationship further, you will come across to your date as a good friend or a reliable person.
In conclusion, it is always best to be honest about who you are and what your likes and dislikes are. Lying may help you on the first date. However, if you really want to make the relationship work, you need to be honest right from the outset.
