Many people would love to be able to do some gardening, however, maybe because of climate or housing conditions, do not have the opportunity to do it. Imagine living where the weather outside would kill your favourite plants or you live 20 stories high above the ground in a high rise flat. This is where indoor gardening comes into its own.

Indoor gardening does not always relate to gardening inside a house, it can mean gardening in a greenhouse or lean-to setting within a garden, these are the most common kind of indoor gardening . This though is not always available to everyone, so I consider indoor gardening as relating to having more than one plant, being grown within a home. To many, this will be several large pots placed in a warm area within the home. The area chosen will have to do with the kind of plants that are being grown. Growing plants in pots is an especially good idea for certain kinds of plants such as cherry tomatoes, that do not grow too large.

One great indoor gardening idea is for a small herb garden. The best place for this is in the kitchen close to a window where it can avail of natural sun light, which is essential for all plants; you can get a number of smaller pots and line them up on the window sill or you can get a larger pot, which you can place on a stand or the table depending on the amount of herbs you are wanting to grow.

If you are interested in indoor gardening, there are a few rules that you should consider following. First of all, be sure that you have a room in your house that is warm enough for the plants that you would like to have and be sure that the room gets at least some partial sunlight. Also, be sure to place the plants where they will not be disturbed by children or animals. The reasons are numerous, namely your pride and joy could become ruined or more seriously, the child or animal may suffer if the plants turned out to be poisonous. Information on plants should be given freely by your local gardening centre, if not, try a little research on the Internet.

Whatever plants you choose and whether you use a greenhouse or a room within your home, there is no doubt that indoor gardening can be rewarding.
